Dean Herd, who is also Chairman of the band, first joined the band in 1969 and later left in 1975. He rejoined in 1986 and has been conducting for five years. Dean was also deputy conductor
for two years, and has played principal cornet for the band for seven years.
Dean was taught to play at the Gleed boys school by George Ragsdell and has been playing since the age of eight.
